Description:Who are we?

AMEC is the largest UK-based private sector supplier of programme management and engineering services to the nuclear sector. We’ve 50 years’ experience in the nuclear market and clients including BNFL, British Energy, UKAEA, AWE Aldermaston and a wide range of international nuclear utilities.

Our 2,000 nuclear employees operate in the fields of decommissioning, reactor and laboratory services and project and programme management in countries across the globe, including Canada, the former Soviet Union and Korea."

What do we do?

We provide world-class expertise in project management and the delivery of safe, high quality engineering solutions often involving safety critical or complex technical applications. For all our customers we use our wide portfolio of skills in providing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Our expertise covers:
  • engineering and safety assessment
  • project management
  • technical consultancy
  • decommissioning and waste management
  • front-end design and project management
We also provide expert technical services, including reactor systems analysis and development, regulatory licence support and safety assessments to international nuclear markets.

What is the scale of our projects?

We're working on a global scale, delivering engineering projects from initial planning all the way through to completion and on-going asset life support.

For example, in Canada we have secured a £245 million project to manage the restart of two nuclear reactors at the Bruce A power station in Ontario. In the UK we provide essential support to the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) contract to clean up and demolish a number of redundant research facilities on the Aldermaston site in Berkshire. The two-year programme begins with a safety case and risk assessment that will last for up to eight months before the treatment of waste and final demolishing of the buildings.

In Eastern Europe we provide on-site assistance programmes in Russia, as well as managing one of the world's largest decommissioning projects in Lithuania.

In South Africa we delivered a research project to the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) that developed practical guidelines for UK licensees on managing human factors in the de-fuelling and decommissioning phases of nuclear power stations.

What about career opportunities?

The demand for our expertise continues to grow, so we are always looking to develop our team. We're keen to meet qualified, enthusiastic people looking for a challenging opportunity.

We recognise that our strength lies in our people, and our staff offer a wealth of knowledge and experience.
