Butterworths was founded by Henry Butterworth in 1818 and has been at the forefront of law publishing for over 180 years. Tolley Publishing was founded in 1916 and has built a reputation as a major publisher of tax reference works in the UK.
Butterworths Tolley was formed in 1996 when Reed Elsevier purchased Tolley Publishing. 2000 saw the acquisition of IRS Eclipse - a publisher and conference organiser focusing on employment law, personnel, health & safety and pensions, helping to consolidate our growing presence in the regulatory market.
