Disabled people looking for work
totaljobs.com is accessible to disabled candidates and its audience is over representative of the disabled workforce in the UK. While there are six per cent of jobseekers in the UK with disabilities who are able and willing to work (The Disability Rights Commission), eight per cent of totaljobs's audience has a disability.
Research has shown that disabled people tend to be more loyal than other workers, the research also found that disabled people take less sick leave than other employees. Unsurprisingly, the survey found that a disabled worker's productivity rate is on par with other workers. Many companies employing people with disabilities have reported an improvement in team dynamics - this can be attributed to the breaking down of social barriers and the encouragement of a more positive and diverse office environment.
It is unlawful to discriminate, without justification, against anyone on the grounds of their disability. The best way to find out what is required is to ask the disabled person what they would need to be able to do the job.
