Applications Manager

Our client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of Automated Handling Systems. They are looking for an effective applications manager to work from their European Head Office in the Midlands. The role will involve development and ongoing management of an efficient ‘Applications Department’ to provide system engineering solutions for automated solutions, within agreed budgetary constraints. Due to the nature of this position, candidates are required to travel throughout both the UK and Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of the project proposal development, costing and approval process
- Generation of appropriate departmental reports and monitoring tools
- Development of departmental resources
- Communicate and Coordinate activities and resource with all interacting departments
Specific Duties:
- Provide high quality System solution support for all European sales teams
- Develop detailed sales cost estimates for all firm system proposals
- Provide standardisation to all European proposal documentation and development tools (costing, vehicle calculations etc.)
- Validation of all project delivery schedules quoted as part of a firm quotation
- Provide leadership to the department, develop the skills and capability of all individuals and actively promote team working
- Interface and share knowledge with the US design department to capitalise on “lessons learned”
- Ensure that regular Design reviews are conducted on all sales projects
- Work with Business Development Managers to provide a high quality sales “product”
- Assist in Customer presentations and technical discussion
- On Contract award delivery of a comprehensive project handover to the project management team
- Develop detailed planning tools to ensure that labour is efficiently deployed and that cost is minimized.
- Implement and manage departmental procedures and practices and ensure that they are incorporated within the Company Quality manual
- Continually review new techniques and technology and ensure that new designs take advantage of all possible changes to improve efficiency and or performance
- Arrange regular meetings to communicate with all interfacing departments to discuss issues, requirements and forecast.
- Through formal and informal channels promote personal ownership, achievement and improvement for all staff
- Assist in the identification and implementation of operational cost savings
- Other reasonable tasks which may from time to time be requested by the European Managing Director

Customers and their representatives
Managers and staff of all other departments within the company
Subcontractors and their representatives.
