RM is a Microsoft Gold Partner and UK Market Leader in providing IT Solutions to the Education Sector.We are looking for Applications Support Manager with a technical background in SQL Server, XML / XSLT, IIS, & Windows 2003 / 2008 to join our Online Assessment division.Our technically challenging projects involve the development, delivery and support of innovative online assessment and marking solutions.These solutions are set to revolutionise assessment and marking for high stakes examinations such as GCSEs and A-Levels.The role involves managing a team of applications support engineers who are responsible for analysis and troubleshooting of complex live support issues, designing test and production environments, database performance monitoring and tuning our multiple live customer environments to ensure maximum systems performance.This fast-paced and challenging environment offers the opportunity to make your mark in a highly visible role, with support from RM for your development into a wide range of future career opportunities.

The role will involve:

  • Line managing a team of Applications Support Engineers, DBAs and Systems Engineers.
  • Developing and implementing the operational strategy to support future growth and new customer requirements.
  • Day to day management of operations and escalations within the applications support team.
  • Working closely with development and testing teams within the division, to understand future testing and production environment requirements and delivering systems to meet these.
  • Monitoring and assessing performance of live systems and taking responsibility for systems security.
  • Configuration management of software and hardware changes.
  • Working closely with internal hosting and IT teams to drive infrastructure changes and ensure maximum system performance.

The individual:

  • Of graduate calibre, you’ll have considerable experience in supporting large scale systems.
  • Proven experience of line managing or mentoring engineers within an operations or support based environment.
  • A technical background encompassing some or several of the following: SQL Server 2000 / 2005, Windows 2003 / 2008, Networking, Web Services, Servers, XML, and Internet Security.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Passionate about delivering excellence in customer service, technical projects and day-to-day work.
  • Flexible approach and the ability to make a real contribution to the team in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
