West Lothian Council's Roads Services are offering exciting 3 year Modern Apprenticeship opportunities for females/males to receive an extensive and varied training programme. Areas covered in this apprenticeship are: - setting out of work, drainage works, surfacing of roads and footpaths, kerb laying, winter maintenance and much more. You will be required to attend college on day or block release and demonstrate the motivation and commitment required to combine on-the-job training with college studies. Successful applicants will have achieved or expect to achieve standard grade level 3 or above in Maths, English and preferably studied Craft and Design or another relevant subject or be able to demonstrate a comparable level of knowledge and expertise in roadworks gained by works experience or through roadworks training schemes and initiatives. (e.g. Get Ready For Work). Purpose of the Job To assist the Roads Department to provide a comprehensive service relating to the construction and maintenance of roads and footpaths within West Lothian
Key Responsibilities
. Adhere to all H&S aspects of the job and where appropriate in accordance with 'Safety at Street Works and Road Works', Code of Practice
. Assist in the interpretation of utility drawings and marking of sites for the avoidance of utility plant.
. Assist in the interpretation of plans and specification drawings for the setting out of work.
. Where it permits and the necessary driving licenses held - duties may include operating plant and equipment.
. Assist in the construction of drainage, manholes, roads and footpaths
. Assist in road marking
. Erection of new signs and pedestrian barriers
. Participate in the delivery of the Roads Winter Service and emergency service provision.
