Unique job opportunity to undertake a Software Developer Apprenticeship with a Local Software business and the UK’s leading IT training company.

QA have a variety of partner companies ready to recruit software developer apprentices and support them through a 12 month programme that will lead to a career using C# and .NET technology to create web applications and Windows forms.

The Apprentice Web Developer will train to become a SharePoint & .Net Developer of the future, learning to provide intranet and public facing web solutions using Microsoft SharePoint 2007/2010 and ASP.Net. This will include some precursor steps of Web and SharePoint support.

About the Apprenticeship

There are 'Work-Based Learning’ apprenticeships with a Software company in your area, although at times you will be required to stay at a central academy location as you study towards industry recognised qualifications, whilst earning an initial salary of £150 per week!

The Role

Gaining understanding of Web & SharePoint development methodologies and processes from concept through to launch.
Assemble, analyze, and scope business and functional SharePoint requirements in cooperation with users of the system and IT.
Development of web application solutions.
Produce system functionality documentation with associated skills such as process design, process mapping and data flow improvements as they relate to the implementation and use of the new systems.
Participate in project planning and status meetings, documenting outcome of project meetings.
Participate in the management of client relationships with client stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Provide 2nd support to resolve web issues raised with IT service desk.
Escalation of issues to management.
Develop and maintain application documentation.
Ideas to improve ways of working at QinetiQ to be logged via MyContribution.

Training

This programme is fully funded by the government for 16 - 18 year olds, and partially funded for 19-24 year olds. Your employer is also committed to the continued development of your skills and experience.

Entry Requirements

This is an outstanding software career opportunity for talented, committed, and reliable individuals, and we are seeking candidates with high potential. We are looking for exceptional applicants with a strong educational background in either Mathematics, Science or Business related subjects, with an aptitude for computing. We are also looking for candidates who have an understanding of technology and how it supports business, but most of all, who are really serious about becoming a professional programmer, and ideally has experience of writing code:

  • You must have 7 GSCE’s (C and above) - Maths and English is a must (No equivalents)
  • A genuine passion to learn about programming, experience is preferable
  • Strong interpersonal skills/ability to work in a team environment
  • A logical mind, someone who is a problem-solver and doesn’t give up easily
