Buyer
Job Purpose
To be responsible for the Buying activities of a ProductRange for a Brand within the Buying function.
Key Outputs
·To take responsibility for all allocated Suppliers and to formulate a Strategy for each
·To establish a Core Supply Base for their respective Suppliers for which they are responsible and achieve a mutually beneficial long term Formal Agreement with all Core Suppliers
·To achieve all agreed Retrospective Rebate and Catalogue Contribution targets
·To appraise, target and manage
·all staff for which they are responsible to ensure that all objectives and targets are met
·To ensure that preferential Payment Terms are achieved with all Suppliers for which the Buyer is responsible
·To continually search the global market for competitive advantage and to develop Core global suppliers for their ranges.To increase the level of Low Cost Economy Spend in line with both departmental and personal objectives
·To work with all suppliers to continually reduced lead times and aim to eliminate MOQ’s and MOV’s wherever possible
·To source and rationalise their respective suppliers to the lowest effective number
·To drive and reach the best commercial conclusion on allocated Supplier price based negotiations with liaison with the related Buyer / Buying Manager
·To have a target of zero items with an A999 status and to resolve all A999 issues within one week of their occurrence
·To support Stock Control where requested with problematic issues / suppliers / followers etc
·To have a full involvement in the Supply Chain Development (SCD) programme and work with Suppliers on Formal Agreements, RTM Agreements, returns improvements, forecasting etc
·To ensure that the pricing for all Suppliers for which they are responsible is accurate at all times and to resolve any invoice queries within 48 hours of receipt
·To take ownership for both National and Regional Brands Suppliers and apply all of the above accountabilities as appropriate
·Extensive competitor analysis and market research to identify range/product gaps. This includes the positioning of Findels own brand catalogues
·Research Market trends to identify new product requirements through supplier/customer liaison and Product development to offer a comprehensive range
·Range presentation to Sales and Customer Service Departments, demonstrating features and benefits of new products, highlighting major changes and possible issues to minimise customer queries
·Work closely with our QC and Packaging Departments to ensure all new products conform to relevant QA and Packaging specifications
·To rationalise the number of suppliers in order to establish a core supplier base, and to work with core suppliers to continually reduce lead times and MOQ’s etc
·To undertake supplier visit assessments to establish supply chain including Direct Supply facilities, product quality, MOQ’s manufacturing procedures and future business development
·Working closely with the Marketing and Publications Department to review current catalogue presentation, advising of key product features
·Copy writing with Brand emphasis
·Accurate page checking from layout to final priced laser
·Create new products in close liaison with Product Development, using key skills in terms of market knowledge, ‘best sellers’ school visits and brain storm meetings
·Range review evaluation sales performance by assessing page average/line average in order to determine page layout assuring profit has been maximised by range
Qualifications and Experience
·People management experience is desirable.
·Demonstrable leadership qualities with a track record of managing and motivating teams. Credible in setting high standards and providing strong direction.
·Ability to respond favourably to the sharing of ideas but able to balance this with the ability to lead and direct.
·Good understanding of forecasting and scheduling techniques.
·Ability to explain complex and unfamiliar situations effectively.
·PC literate with keyboard skills
·Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
