The buyer role will be responsible for the strategic sourcing of a range of goods and services. This position is in integral to the department and wider business, as you will have direct responsibility for managing costs, whilst maintaining excellent service levels from suppliers.
Key Responsibilities;
- Develop a category sourcing strategy for each allocated category area.
- Management of existing and potential suppliers.
- Develop an in depth understanding of all categories, including reviewing the whole life
cost/total cost ownership (TCO)
- Achieve agreed savings targets by challenging current cost base, benchmarking and
tender activity as appropriate.
- Commercially aware, where appropriate to work with suppliers to jointly maximise
revenue.
- Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
- Rationalise products and services required by centres, to gain maximum leverage
through category areas.
- Proactively challenge current procurement policies and business processes in place,
and identify more effective ways of working.
- Actively partake in the ongoing development of the centralised computer system.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of sourcing general indirect goods and services. Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to handle pressure would be an advantage. Proven ability to undertake whole life cost/total cost of analysis (TCO), summarise results and make recommendations based on results. Be degree educated and ideally hold professional membership i.e. MCIPS. Ability to travel in the UK.
