This role is based in Doncaster

Manage the SYDR Planning and Design team and sub-contractors to provide accurate and timely design work-packages and milestone acceptance packs for the SYDR project within quality and budgetary guidelines, including minimising the as-built distance.

Key Results Area
?Performance manage the planning and design team to meet tight deadlines and strict SYDR quality and design standards
?Optimise the day to day allocation of work to the team to ensure that deadlines are met without over- or under-utilising staff
?Programme the work of the team and design sub-contractors to ensure that deadlines will be met
?Provide management information about the performance of the team to allow the SYDR project team to track overall delivery of the project and senior management to assess overall performance
?Manage team resourcing, including level of temporary labour and leave to ensure that the team has sufficient FTEs at any one time to complete the work but no more than necessary.
?Ensure the team is working closely and seamlessly with the SYDR construction team, works control team and project team. This includes information flowing at a working level without having go via management
?Ensure that the team are liaising and undertaking sufficient surveys with Thales, YEDL, BT and Local Authorities to ensure their work-packages can be constructed
?Ensure that the team are adequately trained in planning and design skills and SYDR specific requirements to competently fulfil their roles
?Manage the support of the SYDR GIS system
?Manage the day-to-day performance of any sub-contractors producing design work
?Represent the KCOM SYDR team at meetings with the Local Authorities, BT, YEDL
?Represent the KCOM SYDR team at meetings with the Customer (Thales)
?Evaluate, design, recommend and procure dark fibre from other operators.
?Provide Planning and Design input into the evaluation of contract change requests
?Manage & motivate employees in the SYDR Planning & Design teams, including team briefings, leave, sickness, timesheets, H&S issues, appraisals, provision of PPE, training, recruitment and development.
?Provide planning and design information to the rest of the SYDR project team as required e.g., to support the provision of the Appendix E information to the Local Authorities
?Manage team and SYDR processes and procedures, continuously improving them to enhance the performance of the SYDR team.
?Undertake any additional duty as reasonably requested by the SYDR Externals and Contracts Manager
?Deputise for the SYDR Externals and Contracts manager as required

Knowledge/Skills and Experience
?In depth knowledge of Planning & Design techniques/processes
?In depth knowledge of NRSWA regulations
?In depth understanding of team and resource management
?In-depth experience of performance managing a team to meet challenging delivery targets
?Experience of day-day management of sub-contractors
?Experience of working on large scale, ?multi-million structured engineering projects
?Comprehensive understanding of SYDR.
?Comprehensive understanding of the KCOM?s external national network in South Yorkshire
?In depth knowledge of GIS, Visio, Excel and working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, MS Project,
?Relevant management experience in Planning and Design
?In depth knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, CDM legislation and associated company policies and procedures.
?Working knowledge of HR legislation and policies and procedures
?Principles and execution of active management
?Communication & people skills
?Organisation & time management skills
