As the Lead Clinical Psychologist, to ensure the systemic provision of high quality, clinical psychology services to male inpatients with complex mental health needs.
To support the clinical team in planning the long-term strategic development of psychology provision within the service and operationally manage the clinical psychology component of the service contributing to a multi-disciplinary ethos and multi-disciplinary working.
To provide professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary team.
To participate fully within the services of the multi-disciplinary team and in the strategic and operational development of the team.
To undertake project management for the service in response to service development requirements, as agreed with the Clinical Director.
You will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team providing individual psychological assessments and interventions to male inpatients with complex mental health needs.You will work across two sites in the independent sector.
You will need to be experienced in the administering of neuropsychological/psychometric and structured risk assessment.
Well developed therapeutic skills CBT, DBT and CAT are seen as an advantage and mental health and forensic experience are seen as essential.
Responsibilities will include delivering therapeutic interventions (1:1 and group work) and overseeing risk assessment (HCR-20 and START).
You will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team offering specialist psychological assessment, formulation and psychological therapy to 47 male inpatients, across two sites, with complex mental health needs.
The post holder will be involved in the clinical management of these clients and will liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will be expected to provide advice, training, support and supervision to staff in other disciplines in the care and management of the male patients with complex mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct clinical work
To provide an expert clinical psychology service for complex cases involving individuals requiring multi-level assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation, drawing on a range of psychological models and theories.
To use evidence-based psychological assessments, formulations, interventions and approaches for clients with complex mental health needs, taking into account risk management and relapse prevention
To provide advice, psycho-educational information and psychological interventions to these clients
Administering of neuropsychological/psychometric and structured risk assessment(HCR-20 & START)
To provide consultation and joint working within a multi-disciplinary team setting
To be actively involved in the CPA process
To participate and oversee the delivery of the group therapy programme for clients
To liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary team, attending ward review meetings and participating in discharge planning
To maintain effective lines of communication and joint working with the multi-disciplinary team across the two sites
To ensure that the client’s rights and welfare are upheld and that the needs of those with complex health needs are being responded to sensitively with respect to age, culture, race, ethnicity, social class and disability
To provide clinical supervision, role consultancy and teaching to colleagues within the service
To oversee risk assessment and risk management for service
To provide both general and specialist advice to staff undertaking risk assessment and management
To provide expert consultation about the psychological care of service users to staff and outside agencies
To carry clinical management responsibility for the clinical psychology domain and be involved in making decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the organisations referral protocols
Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for formal clinical clients
Carry out clinical audits of service performance, including service user surveys and evaluations and help to collate and disseminate the results for feedback.
Teaching, Training and Supervision:
To support the work of staff within the rehabilitation service through teaching, training and supervision as required
To provide training to staff as part of an agreed training strategy
To supervise staff in training in their clinical work on placement with the organisation, where appropriate
To maintain professional standards and profession networks
Corporate Responsibilities:
To develop systems of audit and service evaluation in conjunction with the Clinical Director and other senior staff
To continuously evaluate the quality of care given and effect change when required achieved planned goals

Provide advice and supervision to team members on matters related to the practice and delivery of clinical psychology
To provide supervision to other staff in the service as required.

To be responsible for diagnosing and formulating the difficulties of patients with complex and often multiple clinical conditions/problems
To be responsible for ensuring that supervised colleagues are safe to practice and working in their levels of competency
To be responsible for making decisions and judgements about various risks that can be associated with patients (e.g. of suicide or self-harm)
To be responsible for adapting a range of psychological therapies to the needs of patients.Therefore each therapeutic intervention involves a degree of innovation
This is negotiated and constructed with the patient and can also involve the co-ordination of input from other professionals within the team.
