Actuarial Manager, Commercial AutoratedSalary circa £47,200 - £70k depending on experience (plus bonus & benefits)Location: Ipswich As the Commercial Autorated Actuarial Manager, your role will be to lead a small team of part-qualified actuaries in their pricing, reserving and performance monitoring activities. The team is newly-established so we are seeking a qualified actuary (or equivalent) with strong leadership/management skills. Your role will be to manage and delegate work effectively across the team and liaise with the Heads of Department in Underwriting, Distribution and Finance. You will deliver training on processes, methodology, systems, etc. in order to help your team to deliver quality outputs. The Autorated Commercial team produces pricing and reserving calculations for a range of property & liability products. The role
- You will support your team in providing technical expertise and use actuarial judgement to derive adequate level of technical reserves and assess the current year loss ratios for relevant Business Lines.
- You will help to estimate current and future years' loss ratio taking into account developments across AXA Insurance and the UK insurance sector.
- You will advise Strategic Business Units (SBUs) on premium rate structures which meet AXA's strategic and financial objectives for Commercial Lines.
- You and your team will assess product profitability and the performance of relevant Business Lines.
- You will support and challenge Underwriting, Distribution and Reinsurance decision-making and identify business opportunities.
- You will ensure your team's timeliness, accuracy and completeness of Commercial Lines business MI provided via the BICC and used for actuarial processes.
- You will support the roll-out of value creation metrics across the business and ensure consistency of pricing, reserving, capital modelling and reinsurance processes.
- You will develop the skills and competencies of the Team.
Skills, knowledge and behaviourKey- Typically you will be a qualified actuary. Alternatively a financial/actuarial/general insurance professional qualification or demonstrating equivalent technical expertise and enough insurance knowledge to fulfil key accountabilities of the role.
- You will have experience of managing or coaching a team of other actuaries.
- You will have excellent relationship management skills and an ability to manage key relationships and act independently.
- You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact with Executives and Senior Management.
- You will have strong influencing and communication skills ? influencing non-Finance managers and Executives
Other- You will have an ability to communicate technical content clearly to all levels.
- You'll have Project Management skills (including Resource Management skills), including proven knowledge of managing medium to large projects.
- A proven ability to work under time pressure.
- Excellent analytical problem solving skills.
- Great Business acumen.
- Substantial product and industry knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework.
- An advanced level knowledge of Word, Excel and other actuarial tools.
What will you get from this role?- Competitive base salary between £47,200 - £70,000 per annum depending on experience.

Role holder should be based in Ipswich. Resourcing Partner: Louise Webb Role criteria: Must be a qualified Actuary or have relevant Actuarial experience within the General Insurance Market. Experience of pricing is essential (ideally both Personal and Commercial Lines). Experience of coaching or managing a team. Knowledge of SAS, VB, Excel.
