Job Description : 

Commodity Buyer.

Our global defence sector client has a new requirement for an experienced buyer sourcing electrical harnesses and pipes, standard fasteners and strings built to spec.

Reporting to the Commodity Manager/ Site Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will be a member of the global commodity team with the main responsibility to source suppliers for nominated commodities/projects; and to establish / maintain contractual relationships for a defined commodity family.

Commodity Buyer is responsible for:

  • Contributing to local and global purchasing strategy definition
  • Setting up key long term contracts for the nominated commodity with key suppliers
  • Leading the supplier selection process for outsourcing, new programmes or where the need for a new supplier is identified
  • Managing global supplier base for a nominated commodity (between $10-$20 million)
    • Maintaining and negotiating all terms and conditions
    • Rationalising supplier panel
    • International Supply base across multi-sites
  • Communicating effectively to enable accurate and timely placing of orders by procurement dept, in line with the contractual terms
  • Managing implementation of new products/suppliers up to satisfactory completion of First Article deliveries
  • Carrying out design to cost activity with suppliers and Engineering function
  • Identifying and implement cost reduction opportunities
  • Supporting market research, including low cost and benchmarking of the supply chain and new technology
  • Supporting bids on new programmes
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities both locally and globally
  • Communicating and working effectively with other members of the local and global supply chain management team and with other functions

Buyer specifics:

Ideally contractual negotiation experience and possess analytical skills to review tenders and make recommendations.

Qualified to degree level (or equivalent), the you must have significant purchasing experience; supported by extensive knowledge of production control process (MRP and flow management).
