A Conference Manager is sought to manage the research, design and development of all conference programmes including the annual conference and topical conferences in order to enhance the reputation of this leading organisation.
For each conference you will design and develop the programme by identifying new initiatives and sourcing high calibre and topical speakers to take part in the conferences. You will be dealing with senior people across all areas of learning and development and require excellent communication skills in order to negotiate with them
Main Duties
- To manage the overall research, design and development of the conference portfolio to ensure that the client offers conferences which are leading edge.
- To work with the Conference Producers and Conference Research Executive to design and develop conference programmes and new events that meet changing market demand and enhance the reputation as a leading.
- To prepare feasibility studies, including proposed financials, likely customer profiles, potential and existing competitors and fit with existing portfolio, for all new or proposed conferences to ensure they meet agreed financial and professional criteria.
- To undertake and oversee the sourcing, vetting, booking and briefing of speakers, ensuring they are up-to-date in their subject, have effective presentation skills and are able to deliver the material in an appropriate manner for the relevant event.
- To project manage the product development cycle for these conference programmes, ensuring that deadlines are met according to agreed schedules and that staff resources are allocated appropriately.
- To manage the development of informal networks building significant relationships with key practitioners, academics and consultants to gain ideas about the future development of the Conferences.
- To keep abreast of market needs, trends and forecasts through regular market and customer contact including attending networking (internally and externally).
- To recruit, motivate and develop staff in order to maintain a productive team capable of meeting the department’s objectives, including regular one-to-one meetings and annual performance and development reviews.
Ideal Candidate
- Of graduate calibre with significant experience in a similar role you will be able to design, develop and quality control a portfolio of events to meet the needs of our target audience and maximise the commercial opportunities
- You will have experience of keeping abreast of competitor activities in order to develop new and exciting opportunities and a good understanding of current people management and development issues.
- Your commercial acumen, gained from previous experience in a commercial environment, will inform your business planning and budgeting activities to ensure all conferences meet financial targets.
- You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Previous line management experience is essential.
