Controls Software Design Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Purpose of Role: To provide complete controls design including software design and commissioning within cost and time scale constraints of complex electrical control systems for different industries, especially Automotive, Baggage handling and Materials handling projects, whilst ensuring the solution meets the requirements of the project.
Reporting to: Principle Software Engineer
Principal Accountabilities:
Main Job Objectives
- To maintain good relationships with all internal and external
customers, through provision of a high quality service.
- To maintain the company`s image as a top quality, professional
company, by adopting an honest, professional and attentive
approach.
Specific Responsibilities – Software Design
- To produce a structured software program.
- To produce a visualisation database.
- To assist in Factory testing of the visualisation system prior to
sending to site.
- Design, production and test of automated control software.
Specific Responsibilities – Commissioning
- To produce required Health and Safety documentation including,
but not limited to Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- To commission controls systems on site and to provide support to
system commissioning activities.
- To provide system training for the end user.
General Responsibilities
- Liaise with Project Sales and Project Engineers during project
phase.
- Liaise with Project Managers, Customer and sub-contractors during order execution phase.
- Liaise with purchase departments.
- To maintain and use wherever possible, standard product
information for the execution of orders.
- Where necessary to develop special and new standard solutions to
suit specific projects and new markets.
- To innovate wherever possible to improve our delivered product to
the end customer (e.g. reduced price, reduced time-scale,
improved functionality).
- To provide technical backup to the service team as required,
including bug fixes, enhancements and modifications.
- To maintain and improve upon personal skills related to the
position, through experience and training.
- To comply with the company policy as defined in the Staff
Handbook, Safety Manual, and Quality Assurance Manual.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
- HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering and/or educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
- All applicants must have previous industrial controls experience.
Beneficial to have held a similar role.
- Previous use of Siemens or Allen Bradley controllers
