My Client is going through a large period of growth and is seeking a Corrosion Specialist.
Job Description
The role of the corrosion specialist within the Plant, Inspection and Assessment team is to carry out experimental corrosion assessments, corrosion testing and plant failure investigations to support continued plant production and current operations. Support will also be provided to the plant inspection and materials capabilities within the team and to other technical areas within the Company.
Carry out desk based assessments and experimental research programmes in support of current and future plants for determination of remanent life assessments, new materials and technologies as part of multi disciplined team relevant to the nuclear industry.
A company specialist in the area of corrosion science providing in depth technical guidance/support for the company business groups.
· Provide technical support and advice to a multi disciplinary team of the Plant, Inspection & Assessment team, wider Company capabilities and Sellafield Operating / Decommissioning Plants & other external business units through work programmes and emerging corrosion problems.
· Undertake corrosion work programmes and assessments, through desk based and experimental investigation in support of assessment.
· Identify and define technical scopes for corrosion work packages to be undertaken and produce accurate cost estimates and work plans to ensure their timely completion to high technical quality and cost as directed by the Senior Technical manager.
· Produce accurate records of work carried out for inclusion in technical reports.
· Perform tasks within defined timescales and in accordance with the Company Quality Management standards.
· Produce relevant safety documentation and be compliant with all safety systems for carrying out any work within the Company facilities or on the Sellafield site.
· Flexible work arrangements may be required to meet plant requirements.
· Keep abreast with the latest trends & developments in the corrosion field and contribute effectively to the customer base, whilst maintaining commercial integrity.
· Provide advice and support to assigned individuals in the corrosion science field, as their mentor/supervisor, to help develop their potential and achieve the relevant professional standards and qualifications.
Essential Skills/Qualifications
· Honours degree in Chemistry or Materials Science.
· Good theoretical knowledge of corrosion science
· Demonstrate a high safety and quality process for all tasks undertaken
· Can demonstrate having the ability to assess customer needs and deliver a timely and cost effective solution.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
· Experience or knowledge of failure investigations.
· Qualified to higher degree standard in Chemistry / Materials Science.
· Knowledge of plant processes and operations.
· Demonstrable customer focus with excellent communication skills.
· Provide evidence of having high initiative with the ability to plan and direct own work.
