Design Safety Support Engineer – Submarines.
Our client is one of the UK's leading Technical Safety and Environmental Consultancies and due to an increased demand for their services in Safety Engineering and Management; they are looking for a Consultant to manage and support their assignments in the UK and overseas and to provide for succession in the business.
Due to their increasingly successful business development and diversification, they can offer you the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging and high profile assignments, principally in the Defence, Maritime, Energy and Aerospace Sectors.
The Design Safety Engineer will support the Safety Services Manager in the performance of the tasks of the Safety Services Groupwith particular responsibility for:
·Supporting the submarine platform design life extension process by compiling reports whose recommendations will inform a decision to authorise a submarine to continue operation beyond its original design lifetime;
·Assist with the integration of supporting Equipment Safety Cases into the Platform Safety Case and manage issues arising;
·Review end of Maintenance Period documentation for any submarine or personnel safety implications;
·Assist with the production of submarine material state reports;
·Provide advice and expertise on the assessment and management of safety risks to the In Service Submarines Team and their stakeholders, as directed by the Safety Services Manager;
·Facilitate and record risk assessments and produce safety cases as directed by the Safety Services Manager.
The qualifications and experience requirements are as follows:
·Academic:-HNC qualified in an engineering-related discipline with some relevant experience, OR ONC/OND qualified in an engineering-related discipline with significant and relevant experience.
·Professional:- The candidate shall have completed, or will be required to complete, the MOD’s Ship Safety Management Office (SSMO) course within one year of taking up the post.Ideally, the candidate will be progressing towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
·Experience:- It is essential that the candidate has a working knowledge of the use of MS Office-related tools such as WORD and EXCEL.It is desirable that the candidate has:
oDirect knowledge of the capabilities, functions, operation, maintenance and repair of submarines, gained during service in the Royal Navy or work in Industry;
oKnowledge of safety and risk management techniques;
oSome experience of MOD working practices in the submarine support area.
