Our client is a specialist in the design, qualification and manufacture of composite components for the aerospace and defence markets.They employ around 250 people and have an annual turnover in excess of £20m.The company is currently recruiting in a number of disciplines to fulfil the demands of an impressive and expanding order book and are aiming to add significantly to the strength of the Engineering Department.
They are currently undergoing restructuring to implement lean principles and life cycle management across the business. To support this exciting initiative a high calibre Project Manager is required to manage Engineering development programmes.
This candidate should possess a good first degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and preferably a minimum of five years experience managing technical projects in industry, preferably in the aerospace and/or defence sector.
The Project Manager will be responsible for development projects which will require management of personnel and activities across multiple sites, necessitating frequent travel.
The principal job requirements are:
- To liaise with the Business Development function prior during the project bid phase to provide information on risk, cost and programme
- To set up and maintain a programme (MS Project) to be used to manage resource, spend and schedule adherence
- To set up and maintain a Risk Register
- To manage a multi-disciplinary team of engineers
- To provide project status information at monthly business reviews
- To act as principal customer interface during the project development phase
- To liaise with and advise the Commercial Manager with respect to project contractual matters
The skills and experience necessary to fulfil this role are:
- Proven track record in project management of technical programmes
- Experience of supervision of technical staff
- Life cycle management (or similar) process knowledge
- Well developed inter-personal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Director.
