Head of Engineering Consultancy - Discipline Lead for M&E (Specifically in Rail)
Based in York or Derby
Salary: Very negotiable for the right individual (Director grade)

ROLE OVERVIEW
Burns Carlton is a market leader within rail engineering and a preferred supplier for many of the UK's leading rail consultancies. We are currently looking for a senior individual at director grade who will become the Disciple Lead and The Head of Engineering for the (M&E) arm of the business reporting to the Rail Director.
This is a key leadership role within the Rail Division and you will become the nominated Professional Head for the discipline within M&E and company's technical representative. Responsible for supporting the growing of the business through the achievement of the following key objectives:

*Technical leadership;
*Setting a sustainable organisational and functional strategy for that engineering (M&E) which balances grade, cost and succession planning;
*Driving and scheduling the key hire and recruitment programme for engineering (M&E) disciplines;
*Resource development, training and competence;
*Establishing, developing and improving standards and common processes by identifying and sharing best practices.

DETAILED RESPONSIBITIES
*Development of the teams' awareness and commitment to achieving Zero Accidents. Pro-active promotion of Zero Accidents commitment. Ensure CDM and CAC compliance. Ensure that the company workload forecasting plan is maintained for the discipline within each location showing individual workloads.
*Optimise the utilisation of the engineering (M&E) staff in all offices. Ensure that all components of the discipline supply chain are used to achieve this;
*Promote technical excellence and innovation and raise our technical profile externally. E.g. presentation of technical papers, membership of influential groups;
*Understand what the client and the project managers expect of the engineering (M&E) on a national basis. Meet and exceed expectations. Understand client business drivers. Focus on delivering value to clients business;
*Ensure, in support with the Rail Directors, that performance assessments of Discipline Leads are undertaken in a manner consistent with the national technical development plan and the learning and development plan for the engineering (E&M). Ensure that technical and professional development opportunities are provided to all team members;

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
*Competence of staff and effectiveness of process as evidenced by "right first time" technical reviews;
*Client survey scores insofar as they are applicable to the particular discipline;
*Staff turnover;
*Number of CARs (corrective action requests).
