ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEERS
UTILITY CONNECTIONS SPECIALIST
BASED GLOUCESTERSHIRE

We are now seeking Electrical Design Engineers to join this leading Independent Connections Provider based in Gloucestershire which delivers a flexible and rapid response service to a variety of utility connection requirements. With expertise across a wide range of sectors, they deliver a turnkey solution, from initial enquiry through design, construction and the final adoption of the network by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO).

As the Design Engineer you will undertake the design and planning associated with the construction and installation of New Electricity Contestable Connections up to and including 33kV. Reporting to the Head of Engineering/Project Manager, your responsibilities will include designing Contestable Connections on time and to budget; producing detailed Project Costing using standard software applications and spreadsheets and creating plans and drawings using AutoCAD for all aspects of the Project. You will assist the Project Manager with financial control of projects. You will design projects using standard and non standard solutions, engineering standards and DNO specifications. You will also make site visits to ascertain detailed information related to the design and planning of a project. Other responsibilities will be to carry out risk assessments; develop construction phase health and safety plans; develop project programmes and record all project variations.

This role requires you to be fully conversant with all relevant aspects of the company`s business model and to ensure all works are carried out in line with the company`s policies and procedures. You will need to keep up to date on current legislation and regulations and ensure that all relevant Safety, Construction specifications and technical data are available.

The successful candidate will require at least a HNC Electrical qualification combined with recent New Electricity Connections design experience. You should have previous Planning & Design experience, plus knowledge/experience of Risk Assessment; manual handling and environmental hazards. You will also require an awareness of general health and safety along with a current first aid certificate. You should have an awareness of basis electrical safety and an understanding of COSHH and utility plans.

In addition you will require a working knowledge of PC based computer skills; CAD skills and CDM awareness. You should have an in depth knowledge of Electricity Distribution Systems along with experience of Microsoft Project; an in depth knowledge of DNO G81 design procedures as well as Project Cost Analysis and financial awareness with experience in these areas.

They also have the capability to install high voltage switchgear/distribution transformers including all fitting duties to complete an installation such as substation earthing; control cabling and final testing/commissioning of the installation. Salary will be negotiable dependent on experience.
