Job Description

Responsible for the promotion of environmental principles across the contract ensuring compliance to relevant environmental legislation. Provide assistance and support to the client and Amey to achieve the environmental strategic aims and objectives.Instigation and action upon environmental plans and initiatives on the contract.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL:
  • A degree (or equivalent) in an Environmental or related subject (Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology etc)
  • A keen Environmentalist with Associate membership of IEMA or working towards it
  • Understanding of ISO 14001
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Windows, MS Word and MS Excel
  •  Previous experience in Environmental Management
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for task completion
  • An effective communicator
  • Personable and approachable – acting as a key link in the workplace communication process
  • Possesses a full UK driving license
  • Excellent report writing skills
DESIRABLE:
  • Experience of environmental based training
  • Knowledge of contract activities in the Highways sector.
Responsibilities
  • Management and maintenance of the Environmental Management System for AmeyLafarge Hertfordshire Highways assisting in the continuing development of the Amey Environmental Management Strategy, complying with the requirements of ISO14001:2004
  • Procure the maintenance requirements contained in or required by the environmental management plan and ensure the plan is in compliance with any appropriate Management Strategies or plans
  • Establishing liaison procedures and regular meetings with the client’s environmental officer to assist and enable Hertfordshire County Council to achieve its environmental strategic aims, objectives and minimise the risk of adverse effects on the environment
  • Help assist in the control of the interface on environmental aspects between those responsible for the Network (the client) and the design impacts on AmeyLafarge’s construction and maintenance delivery
  • Management and control of the environmental performance indicators measured on the contract
  • Promote good environmental practices across the contract, supporting the environmental education of the contract operational teams
  • Assist with all teams within the contract on Environmental issues
  • Assist the Regional Environmental Manager in carrying out corporate company objectives and any other wider Environmental team requirements as necessary
  • Carry out on site and depot audits on a regular basis and follow up with support as to implementation of sustained improvements and closing out of issues
  • Seek and implement innovations, improvements and best practice for the environmental aspects of service delivery.
