Within British Gas Business (the part of British Gas that supplies energy products to business customers) we are seeking a Financial Analyst to focus on opex forecasting, reporting and planning.Financial Analyst (Opex) ACA, CIMA, ACCA - The Overview:
  • Salary up to £45,000. Package to circa £55,000.

This is a key commercial Financial Analyst (Opex) role within the British Gas Finance & MI team, which combines opex reporting, planning, analysis and forecasting requirements with the need to acquire a real understanding of the business drivers.


Financial Analyst (Opex) ACA, CIMA, ACCA - The Vacancy:
  • Involvement in all forecasting activities, including identifying and agreeing assumptions and drivers for finance plans and the preparation of submissions to control and consolidation teams.
  • Ensuring that forecasts accurately reflect the latest view of resources, cost initiatives and strategic plans.
  • Assisting in the development of planning processes to meet the challenges of a dynamic environment.
  • To enhance the use of the BPS forecasting tool and SAP Business Warehouse reporting tool within the BGB Opex area.
  • Identification of key month-end actual-to-plan variances and reporting to operational teams and management.
  • Development and delivery of exception reports to the Cost Centre Managers, facilitating better cost control and promoting a culture of responsibility and ownership through the business.
  • Documenting processes to demonstrate financial control.
  • Assisting with the month-end accruals process to ensure that the accounts correctly reflect the costs and activities of the business



Financial Analyst (Opex) ACA, CIMA, ACCA - The Person:The successful candidate must possess all the following experience. This must be clearly displayed through achievements on your CV:
  • Demonstrated track record of financial analysis, Opex reporting and forecasting within large blue chip businesses.
  • Proven monthly financial and management reporting experience; as well as strength in commercial financial issues (challenging assumptions from commercial / operational managers) to assist on delivering on company targets.
  • The successful candidate must at least be educated to a passed finalist or newly qualified accountant level (ACA, CIMA or ACCA) with a strong technical understanding of accounting which underpins the commercial finance function.
  • Demonstrate a real passion for finance and accoutning; robustness of character to challenge managers; ability to lead change; and a relentless drive to succeed and to deliver better than expected results.
  • A proven communicator who is able to educate and advise senior non-finance staff. Proven ability to engage a broad audience with change plans and presentations.
