My clients Group Systems Global (GSG) operations team are based in Croydon and are responsible for the monitoring and control of the Global IT services and infrastructure.
Purpose.
Description
The Operations Manager’s role is to supervise and ensure the efficient operation of the company’s network, server, equipment, IT facilities and services. This includes managing the IT operations staff and diagnosing complex network, software and hardware problems.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the efficient utilisation of IT resources – including personnel and equipment
• Ensuring all operational processes, policies and standards documents are in place and up to date.
• Oversee all reports and documentation related to network and systems operations.
• Develop and maintain maintenance schedules for network and systems equipment.
• Management of maintenance and support contracts for IT operations
• Manage Supplier Relationships relating to IT operations.
• Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, operation, development, upgrade, and support of IT systems, including networks, data centres, servers, switches, operating systems, and associated hardware.
• Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT operational spending and initiatives.
• Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the network infrastructure and related IT systems.
Technical Skills
• Excellent understanding of Active Directory architecture
• Excellent understanding of the Microsoft Windows Server Operating System architecture
• Good understanding of understanding of Microsoft Exchange (2007 preferred) architecture
• A good understanding of security practices and techniques
• Good understanding of Cisco IOS (Switches and Routers)
• Basic understanding of Unix/Linux based operating systems
• To have a good of network infrastructure architecture, including TCP/IP, switch topologies, routing protocols, internet protocols and traffic monitoring.
Experience
• Minimum 7 years in IT
• Ideally worked for a minimum of 3 years in IT Operations management
• Experience of ITIL to at least foundation level, preferable operations management
• Experience of Operations of estates of large numbers (thousands) of clients across multiple sites.
