Our client is uniquely positioned as the market leader across a number of chilled food categories, supplying both branded and private label products to the vast majority of the major multiples and food service channels. Following a strategic review of the business, they have created a new position within the business and to that end they have identified the need to recruit a highly experienced Group Engineering Manager
Working in a field based capacity and reporting directly to the Group Technical Director your primary remit is to lead the development and implementation of the business engineering strategy through out the estate (over 15 UK sites). The strategy will cover engineering compliance and governance (both legislative and internal) and is tasked to ensure the systems, tools, equipment, and engineering human capital competence and structure across the estate supports the business drive towards becoming 'best in class' through 'best practice' initiatives. Furthermore through your analysis, knowledge and auditing ability you will ensure that the asset base across the estate is being effectively maintained, harmonising PPM schedules where appropriate and support the site based teams in their further development of FMEA and Root Cause analysis as standard tools and operating procedures.
We are looking for a Group Engineering Manager who has the ability to increase the visibility and perception of the engineering function throughout the business by integrating the functions fully into the operational business as a key service provider. Ideally of chartered status you will be a solid multi-skilled engineer with a demonstrable experience of leading engineering teams and engineering management gained within the Food/Drink or FMCG sector within a large single site or multi site environment. Fully conversant with all aspects of UK legislation and governance within the engineering function the role calls for a very honest, open and visible approach to engineering management. Additionally you will possess the influencing and rapport building skills to effectively deliver the corporate engineering strategy into the site engineering teams, through gaining the required 'buy in' and therefore ensuring the required changes are sustained. Given the nature of the role it calls for an individual who is fully versed with continuous improvement tools and techniques FMEA, SMED, Kaizen, Kanban and RCM and has the ability to in-bed these tools where appropriate as common practice
This is not a role for the feint hearted. The role could best be described as a 'helicopter role' where the post holder will get involved in general day 2 day engineering activities at individual site level but must not become immersed and loose sight of the bigger picture in deriving and delivering the corporate strategy.
