| Head of Enterprise £48,000 - £51,000 per annum Home Based, but travelling throughout the UK as required. The Organisation WRVS is a major (£85 million) UK charity delivering services through volunteers to help older people to live active and independent lives. Central to those services is a portfolio of ‘enterprise’ activities – including hospital shops, cafés, Meals on Wheels etc. The Role This key role will be instrumental to our future success, as you provide the effective professional leadership of all aspects of WRVS’ enterprise activity, maximising income from WRVS enterprise activities and embedding our unique selling point – services and information delivered by volunteers – in all activities, and taking the portfolio forward with innovation in the delivery and content of services Key Accountabilities include: National Policy and Strategy You will devise effective strategies covering each individual enterprise activity (hospital retail, cafés, commercial food services) and the whole portfolio as an integrated set, appropriate to WRVS’ charitable mission. You will ensure these strategies are reviewed periodically and that they represent an appropriate application of best practices, including creating the standard operating procedures and defining the training necessary for consistent implementation. It is also essential that you research and monitor trends and innovation in the external environment, ensuring that appropriate and relevant aspects of Best Practice are captured. Support to Regions/Nations You will provide support and advice to the Heads of WRVS Services in the regions/nations and their teams in the implementation of WRVS enterprise activities, ensuring always that these are complementary to WRVS social care agenda. Business Planning You will work closely with the Head of Business Development to identify new collaborative / partnership and trading opportunities, developing plans to enhance business performance and implementation national and/or regional promotional activity to enhance business streams. The Person With professional expertise in leading a dispersed retail operation, you will be able to demonstrate a broad-based experience of supply chain development in a competitive, fast moving retail environment, and proven expertise in designing, developing and delivering commercially successful retail promotions. You will of course be able to demonstrate astute commercial numeracy and experience of negotiating on significant scale contracts. Additional experience of leading a team involved with hospitality would be an advantage. You will have ambition and personal professional drive, the ability to think creatively whilst working in very unusual settings for enterprise activities, constantly looking for innovative opportunities to optimize business, and be able to enlist commitment from others through your drive and leadership skills.
