South East - Guildford or London then Dubai
A rare opportunity for an international law firm, this commercial Head of Finance job will initially be based in Guildford (Surrey) / London for 3-6 months before relocating to Dubai to take responsibility for the Middle East Regional Office (MERO). The role has ultimate responsibility for the MERO finance team, financial reporting, financial planning and pricing for the region. You will work with the MERO Management Team to develop and implement initiatives that drive the business forward.
In order to gain an in-depth operational and financial understanding of the firm, you will work with the CFO and Chief Executive (both based in the UK) for 3-6 months. You should be willing to travel from your base in the UK, and throughout the Middle East when you relocate. You will be assisted with relocation when you move out to Dubai.
Reporting to the Middle East Regional Office (MERO) Management Board, and functionally into UK Finance Director, this role will be responsible for;
- Financial planning and reporting for all the MER Offices
- Leadership of the MERO finance team
- Commercial support to the business in respect of pricing, proposals and negotiations
- Maintaining and developing controls and governance procedures that comply with appropriate regulations
Financial Planning, Budgeting & Reporting- Management of the production of all financial reporting, including annual budgets, monthly accounts, forecasts and ad hoc reporting
- Oversee the production and delivery of year end accounts for review by external auditors, and submissions to the Law Society
- Delivery of working capital reports for the region as a whole, and for departments / practices as approriate
Commercial- Provide support to the MERO Board and COO in relation to business expansion projects both within existing jurisdictions and elsewhere in the region
- Provide direct day-to-day support to fee earning and Business Development staff in respect of pricing proposals, pitches and tenders for new work
- Ownership of the annual rate review process, including gathering of competitor data and all associated MI
Management- Day-to-day management of the MERO finance team
- Coordinate the production of an appropriate MERO Business Continuity Plan, which is approved by the MERO Management Board and periodically updated
- Prepare various financial statements, analysis, compliance testing
- Manage the firm’s various audits
Person Summary
- ACA qualified with a good quality bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
- Outstanding analytical skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic with comprehensive knowledge of complex accounting/financial principles and practices
- Ability to function in stressful situations and think strategically and analytically, to troubleshoot, identify solutions and resolve issues quickly
- Ability to take the initiative and drive forward changes
- High level of ability to communicate with, persuade and influence partners, managers and other decision makers
- Committed and determined with the ability to drive forward change
- Ability to performance manage a sizable team
- Calm, confident personality
