It is essential that any candidates submitted for this sofware engineer role can demonstrate that they are pro-active self starters who will be able to able to get up to speed straight away with the minimum of supervision. Please note you need to be able to get Security Clearance for these roles ie be a British Citizen or have worked here for 5 years or more.
Tasks:
The OBSW group require a hardworking and enthusiastic engineer who will be responsible for developing spacecraft on-board software across a number of ESA missions.This will generally involve: -
·On-board software development and validation support, including analysis, design, test, validation and maintenance of satellite flight software embedded in spacecraft platform and payload systems.
·Development of software validation facilities to support test and validation of on-board software in flight representative simulated environment.
Essential skills:
The ideal candidate must have a good ( 2.1 or above ) engineering, computer science or scientific degree. You really need some sort of Space background or bias .
Specific knowledge is required in:
- Real-time software systems and software engineering
- Modern software engineering methods and tools
Significant work experience is required in:
- Programming languages C, ADA and potentially Java
- Object Oriented design methods
- Embedded systems and development
- Real-time operating systems
Desirable skills:
·SPARC microprocessors
·UNIX based systems
·Communication systems protocols
·ESA space programmes and applications
·Simulation of spacecraft systems
·Software development standards (preferably ESA ECSS-E40)
·Military standard MIL-BUS 1553
