Proactive Personnel are pleased to be representing their client, a manufacturing company, in their search for a Materials Planner.
THE MATERIALS PLANNER
To establish and manage sources of supply for new and existing materials and supplies. To achieve the required levels of quality and service whilst delivering a competitive cost advantage to the business
DUTIES:
- To manage the relationship and form a partnership with the supplier to work towards agreed goals, targets & objectives
- To provide credible up-to-date weekly/monthly schedules to all approved Suppliers in line with current Production activity.
- Negotiate contracts, instigate activities and take remedial actions on behalf of the company
- Identify and act upon cost reduction and resourcing opportunities to maximize Purchasing’s contribution to company profitability in line with departmental and individual objectives
- Using agreed data ensure that materials are procured from accredited sources.
- Develop the vendors to provide improving standards of quality and service in line with company strategies
- To offer leadership to the department and develop the roles of lower members of staff and to offer support and advice as appropriate
- To maintain a computerised purchasing database.
- To work with the Production & Planning Teams within the organization ensuring the Material availability of any schedule ‘pull forwards’ and to work closely with the Supplier to ensure the slow down of materials where unplanned constraints are evident.
- To own & manage inventory levels of all Materials scheduled, supporting the targeted & agreed levels of inventory at all times, avoiding over & under stocking levels accordingly.
- To take an active role with the organisation stock taking activity, ensuring any stock discrepancies are escalated as proactively as possible.
THE SUCCESSFUL MATERIALS PLANNER
- The successful applicant should ideally be qualified to HNC in a Business Studies related subject
- Computer literate with MRP experienced and have excellent written/oral communication skills.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar manufacturing related purchasing role is required.
- Experience of handling negotiations on behalf of the company. Results orientated and a self-starter.
- Flexible approach.
- A willingness for continual improvements
- Capable of working on own initiative within agreed company guidelines.
- An understanding of engineering drawings.
- Some out of hours work / travelling will be required

- Our Client are offering a generous remuneration package of £24,000 - £26,000 on days
