Marine Safety Engineer – Surface Ships. Defence.
Our clientprovides high quality and cost-effective technical consultancy to the the Defence, Transport and Energy & Resources sectors, specialising in safety, environmental, and risk management services to investors, regulators, operators and equipment suppliers.
In Defence, their services range from supporting improvements at policy-level through to providing assistance to the MoD and their suppliers in responding effectively to Safety and/or Environmental issues associated with specific projects. They have a particularly strong track record in assisting the MoD and their partners/suppliers in the development and implementation of Safety and Environmental management systems, supporting both policy makers and regulators and individual project managers. Their projects range across both legacy and new equipment, ranging from providing support in setting appropriate requirements, to equipment/system trials, the operational and disposal phases.
The Marine Safety Engineers undertake a key role in assuring the safety of the UK MoD's surface ships, and their personnel.The companies staff provide safety advice to MoD in respect of the Safety Management of Ships and equipment that is integrated within them, or used in support of operations, as well as producing and reviewing safety justifications for overall platforms (Whole Ship Safety Cases) and equipment.They work both for the UK MOD and for suppliers, withtasks covering all aspects and phases of the lifecycle, from concept to disposal, and also considering environmental, risk and other associated considerations.
Theirincreasingly successful Surface Navy team in Bath now seeks people who can apply their intellect, knowledge and experience to a range of safety engineering related tasks.
The Marine Safety Engineers are likely to have solid experience and knowledge of safety assessment in a marine engineering environment, and in generating safety assurance documentation.
The Marine Safety Engineers should have:
·Relevant Safety Assessment/management experience that is specifically directed towards Systems Safety assessment (as opposed to Health and Safety management);
·An inquisitive mind, with the acumen to interpret data and information produced by third parties to produce formatted technical reports;
·Very well developed analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal
The following would be advantageous:
·Knowledge and experience of Defence-related Safety Case, and Environmental standards and regulations.
·An academic qualification to at least first degree level, in a relevant engineering-related discipline, orsolid experience in a marine engineering environment;
·Experience ofproject and task management.
