The Maths department comprises five well qualified and experienced members of staff.

At the beginning of Year 7, pupils are taught in mixed ability groups for a short period of time, after which they are re-organised into ability groups. This continues through out KS3 in consultation with other subjects.

The department philosophy is always to match a pupils mathematical needs and abilities with the programme of study followed. This should ensure individual potential is reached and there is always the opportunity to move groups.

Pupils in all years have three lessons and one to two homeworks each week. To support pupils who need help and practice with class and homework, they hold a rota of lunch time drop-in clinics, which are well used by pupils and, hopefully, means no child becomes distressed or worried by work they find difficult.

The Department issues plus and minus points in-line with the school behaviour policy. They also reward pupils with a Pupil of the Month Award which recognises effort, achievement and attitude in all Maths classes.

The successful applicant must have atleast 1-3 years teaching experience, outstanding interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills. Just be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and creatively. Demonstrated experience working effectively with employers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong, demonstrable computer skills, especially in MS Office.

Please contact Rachael Boaler on 01772 201513 or email rachael.boaler@hays.com.

School Aims

At Tarleton High School, they are committed to:

- Providing the highest quality of educational and social development for pupils in response to their individual, academic, emotional, physical and spiritual needs.

- Maximising everyone's potential.

- Encouraging everyone to take a pride in themselves and the school.

- Equipping pupils to take their place in the wider community.

- Creating a pleasant, caring safe environment which is supportive to all.

- Forging close links with people and organisations in the local community. On Enrichment days pupils enjoy differing activities with a Mathematics theme. This year we have had a Business Day for Year 9 where the pupils designed a layout for a Cafe, planned the menu taking into account potential profit and staffing costs, planned a staff list and rota and then designed advertising, special offers and a menu for their business. Year 10 took part in a revision carousel prior to their modular GCSE exam. Year 8 had a team challenge day which involved group and individual work, countdown and logic puzzles which all scored points for their team with the winning team rewarded.

Their pupils are entered for the Edxecel Modular GCSE. There are two tiers of entry: Higher or Foundation.

The Modular exam involves them sitting a GCSE examination in the November and June of Year 10 which account for 50% of their final GCSE mark and an examination in the June of Year 11 which accounts for the other 50%.

Coursework is NOT required for GCSE Mathematics

In 2008 75% of all students achieved an A* - C grade in GCSE Mathematics
