Your Profile
You must have several years' experience as a writer in medical communications agency (preferably 5+ years) - with proven experience of line management of medical writers. You will need to have confidence and experience of contributing to new business proposals and presenting pitches - and should have a creative, strategic approach to your work. You will be educated to at least degree level in medicine, pharmacy of life science (PhD) preferred!
The Role
Leading and managing a medical writing team for the production of high-quality strategic communication programmes and materials. Providing high level scientific and strategic support to existing account teams and new business activities for this leading Medical Communications Agency. Managing the day to day activity within the medical writing team, ensuring efficient, cost effective and timely delivery of project work. You will be tasked to take overall responsibility for the quality of communications programmes and written materials produced by the medical writing team (x 5 writers) with overall sign off. Providing direction, support and troubleshooting to ensure successful project delivery. Applying high-level client liaison skills, actively contributing to client/opinion leader-meetings and facilitating these meetings from time to time.
Management Skills
Providing coaching/mentoring at all levels Establish and maintain team morale/motivations Identify training needs and recommend/organise training Play an active role in recruitment Utilise and manage freelance assistance, commission and brief freelancers and maintain database Estimate writing hours for budgets, and ensure team delivers to agreed deadlines
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive experience in medical writing, reviewing and resource planning Extensive experience with a wide range of medical communications materials, Including publication planning, symposium and exhibition materials, pitch presentations and promotional materials (for a range of audiences) Excellent project management and organisational skills, with proven track record of managing large medical communications programmes Familiarity with code of practice guidelines Excellent presentation skills Microsoft Office suite - Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel Familiar with database/search tools - e.g. Reference Manager, DataVision
