My Client is going through a large period of growth and is looking to add a Metallurgy Specialist to it's existing team.
Job Description
The role of the materials specialist within the Plant, Inspection and Assessment team is to carry out routine metallurgical testing and plant failure inversitgations to support continued plant production and current operations. Support will also be provided to the plant inspection and corrosion capabilities within the team and to other technical areas within the Company. Carry out desk based assessments and experimental research programmes in support of current and future plans for determination of new materials and technologies as part of multi disciplined team relevant to the nuclear Industry.
Duties
Provide technologist support to a multi disciplinary team of the Plant, Inspection & Assessment team, wider Company capabilities and Sellafield Operating / Decommissioning Plants & other external business units through work programmes.
Undertake plant materials assessments, through desk based and experimental investigation, and have the ability to undertake sample retrieval, sample preparation & analysis in support of assessment determination.
Identify and define technical scopes for materials work packages to be undertaken and produce accurate cost estimates and work plans to ensure their timely completion to high technical quality and cost as directed by the Senior Technical manager.
Produce accurate records of work carried out for inclusion in technical reports.Perform tasks within defined timescales and in accordance with the Company Quality Management standards.
Produce relevant safety documentation and be compliant with all safety systems for carrying out any work within the Company facilities or on the Sellafield site.
Flexible work arrangements may be required to meet plant requirements.
Essential Skills/Qualifications
Honours degree in Materials Science.
Knowledge of ferrous & non-ferrous metals, plastics, polymers and engineering ceramics.
Qualified or working toward professional IMMM qualification.
Demonstrate a high safety and quality process for all tasks undertaken.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
Knowledge of corrosion science relating to metallurgy.
Experience or knowledge of failure investigations.
Qualified to higher degree standard in Materials Science
Knowledge of plant processess and operations.
Demonstrable customer focus with excellent communication skills.
Provide evidence of having high initiative with the ability to plan and direct own work.
