Our client based in Dartford is looking for a PLC Software Developer.

Main purpose of the job:

Reporting to the Engineering Director and occasionally the Works Director, this role has the responsibility for development of new PLC code for multi-axis grinding machines for the Solar Industry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing PLC code primarily using Step7 programming languages on Siemens CNC control systems. Further to the PLC code the successful candidate will also be responsible for creating part programs for control of the machine axis to provide turn-key solutions for our customers.

In addition to this the successful candidate will be responsible for fault finding and maintenance of existing code on machine tools fitted with both Siemens and Fanuc control systems

The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical and electrical designers to ensure new designs are capable of performing the required function whilst conducting risk assessments to ensure that safety systems fitted to the machine tools are at the applicable level.

There will also be the occasional requirement to visit customer’s premises to complete the installation and commissioning of new machine tools as well as fault finding on existing equipment.

. Main duties/responsibilities:

  • Development of new PLC code for control of various systems on machine tools.
  • Writing of CNC part programs to develop automated cycles for machining of customer components.
  • Develop HMI software for the effective display of information to operators of our machine tools.
  • Provide emergency assistance for customers to remedy any faults on their machine.
  • Plan, prepare and implement machine installations at customer premises.
  • Manage costs for performed service visits and report expenses to admin staff for invoicing.
  • Liaise with designers to specify control system requirements
  • Specification of sensors/actuators/valves/switchgear.
  • Commissioning of finished machine tools in Dartford.
  • Testing of finished machine tools in Dartford.
  • Operation of finished machine tools for preparation of customer samples.

Equipment and Software used:

·Company owned laptop computer

·MS Office ( Excel, Outlook, Word and Power Point)

·SAP Business One

·Siemens Step7

·Siemens HMI Advanced

·GE Fanuc FAPT Ladder 3

·Ge Fanuc Macro Executor

Qualifications and education required:

·Minimum HNC qualification in a related engineering field.

·UK driving licence

·Authorisation to work in the UK, Europe, Singapore and USA

Experience required:

·Extensive knowledge of Siemens Step7 programming languages including SCL, STL and Ladder

·Knowledge of both Siemens and Fanuc CNC control systems.

·Knowledge of ISO G Code Programming

·Knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems used in machine tools and automation equipment.

Knowledge of typical electrical circuits and components used within machine tools and the ability to fault find within such systems.

Skills and aptitude required:

·Self motivated, confident and enthusiastic

·Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks with potentially conflicting requirements

·Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with the strength of character to keep self and colleagues focussed on objectives

·Adaptable and flexible to cope with the changing needs of clients

·Strong organising and coordinating skills
