Plant Laboratory Technician
-A progressive plastics recycling company based on Wilton International has a vacancy for a Plant Laboratory Technician to work 12 hour shifts on a ‘four day on, four day off’ pattern
Requirements of the role.
The successful applicant will be required to:
-Ensure the smooth running of the plant process, in conjunction with the shift Plant Operator.
-Perform QC and in process testing of products using such methods as Headspace and on-column GC-FID, GC-MS, FTIR, Colorimetry, density measurement, Melt Flow Index, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, and Electronic Nose analysis.
-Use the results of the analyses to assign batches to the required grades.
-Collect, organise and record QC data for C of A’s and for archiving.
-Organize incoming raw material and determine it’s suitability as a feedstock.
-Provide basic maintenance of plant machinery and lab equipment
-Keep plant and lab areas as clean as possible to avoid contamination of the products.
Experience/Qualifications.
-At least a HND/Degree in a scientific subject.
-Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access).
-Experience of QC testing/laboratory work is essential, preferably using some of the techniques listed above.
-Experience of working with ‘food contact’ material, or prior experience of polymers would be an advantage.
-Of great importance is the attitude of the applicant. They should demonstrate an ability to quickly learn new techniques, whilst also offering ideas on method development.Once trained on the plant and lab processes, they should be comfortable working unsupervised, and be able to tackle problems for themselves. An enthusiasm for the role and a ‘hands on’ approach are important, as is the ability to understand the plant process which is concerned with the production of ‘food’ grade material, therefore an appreciation of the cleanliness requirements to avoid contamination would be beneficial.
