As a Powertrain Calibration Engineer you will have experience of one or more of the following areas:

Description

Diesel Calibration Engineer: Fuel/Air setpoint engineer to develop Stage 5 Light Duty truck Diesel engine calibration. Working within the Fuel & Air setpoint calibration team develop steady state calibration to meet target attributes for emissions, power, torque, Comb noise and fuel economy as directed by the senior lead setpoint engineers. Using engine mapping and Optimisation techniques, develop models of the engine response surfaces for all emissions and attributes. Use the surfaces & models to develop an optimized calibration for the application.

Skills

Must be conversant with technologies, processes and methods used in engine development such that is able to sanity check test data and results and recognise and resolve hardware or process issues. Work with engineers in other disciplines to deliver vehicle level emissions, CO2, fuel targets, Comb noise targets, and acceptable performance in vehicle. Provide support for certification of power and smoke and emissions as required. Knowledge of state of the art Diesel engine performance hardware, Turbochargers, fuel injection systems, EGR systems etc. Good understanding of Diesel combustion process and influence of performance hardware and calibration settings upon all major pollutents. Working knowledge of set-point calibration discipline and optimisation techniques, processes and tools. Knowledge of sensors and dynamometer based engine measurement systems and engine development techniques used for engine development testing. Understanding of DOE based optimisation techniques and tools. Knowledge / awareness of vehicle emissions and after-treatment systems.

Experience Required

Demonstrable hands-on experience in a set-point role (must have been responsible for having organised and ran an engine P&E development dynamometer to deliver calibrations). Relevant experience covering dyno based engine optimisation and calibration, control system development or application, with combustion and emission control technologies, working knowledge of calibration guides and engine management system development. Experience of relevant cal tools ( ATi, Gredi etc) and DOE processes within Matlab, Cage or similar s/w toolset. Experience of dyno based engine performance hardware development, injector selection, swirl level, EGR system etc. Experience of vehicle emission development and after-treatment application. Experience of vehicle calibration processes and tools and classical control theory.

Candidates should have a BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
