Our client are a leading Essex based contractor who covers a multitude of construction projects up to GBP 15m, ranging from social housing to commercial, infrastructure through to reinforced concrete frames and cover areas such as London, Southern Home Counties and the South Midlands.
They are currently seeking a pre construction / planning manager to join their team and provide support and direction in all the pre construction issues which can occur at tender and pre construction stages. The ideal candidate must have relevant experience within a Pre Construction role, and can demonstrate and produce short and long term programming, method statements, cash-flow forecasts, Traffic Management planning, resource histograms and Value Engineering.
As a Contracts / Pre Construction Manager you will have experience in managing the passage of projects through the tender process until projects have been awarded. You will also have experience in assisting in pre-contract activities such as technical submissions, project risk assessments, cash flow, outline project programmes, resource histograms and identifying build ability issues together with value re-engineering.
You will have reporting responsibility to the Bid Director /Project Director and will ensure that the needs of business are achieved whilst ensuring full compliance with legislative and statutory standards.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Technical appraisal of tenders and returned quotations
- Setting / following tendering strategies
- Attending client tender interviews
- Participating in client presentations
- Assistance in the creation of the approved subcontract and supplier's database and the management of same once created
- Design review and value engineering / alternatives
- Assistance in pre-contract activities such as technical submissions, development of the project programme, method statements and other pre start technical documentation
- Working with the contracts managers in reviewing and updating programmes.
- Working closely with the quantity surveyors and the finance team in ensuring clear visibility of cash flow and cost to complete is linked through the construction programme.

Skills
- Previous experience working on high profile projects
- Experience in creating and giving in depth programmes and presentations
- Extensive groundworks and RC frames experience
- Previous experience in leading and influencing a virtual team
- Able to develop sound relationships with the operations teams.
- Have sound technical knowledge
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Be computer literate and high level of competency in project management software
- Self motivating, and able to work with and inspire the team
