We are looking for Principal / Chief Urban Planner to lead the master planning side of the team in Abu Dhabi and provide urban planning services to external and internal clients as part of the Atkins' Middle East planning and urban design team based in UAE. To be involved in strategic planning studies, urban master planning and urban design projects in the Middle East and India region, with specific responsibility for team leadership, working winning, client engagement and project management in Abu Dhabi.

Requirements
Technical CompetenciesEssential Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Urban Planning and/or Design 15 years solid experience in urban planning and/or or urban design projects At least 5 years experience in managing teams and mentoring junior professionals Preferable to have 2 years relevant experience in the Middle East with understanding of Arabic urban morphology and culture, and/or appropriate design standards in the region Ability to convey planning concepts and solutions in real time to clients and others via written reports, maps and drawings Desirable Chartered/qualified status preferable (e.g. RTPI or other national equivalents) Behavioural CompetenciesEssential Must have leadership and business management skills Must have excellent interpersonal skills, customer focus, etc Must have excellent written and oral expression capability and be very comfortable with the core of his/her skill set in Urban & Regional Planning / Urban Design and be able to explain and present concepts powerfully Ability to solve problems by thinking laterally and be able to understand the needs and requirements to provide design solutions in a developing country Must be able to work in a multicultural team and manage challenging multicultural client relationships Able to be flexible and adapt to working in a demanding Middle East environment

Responsibilities
    Management of Urban & Regional Planning projects in Abu Dhabi and elsewhere in the Middle East Preparation of technical and fee proposals for urban and regional planning projects and other major infrastructure projects where appropriate Project management of medium and large scale projects involving multi-disciplinary teams May be required to travel within the Middle East region to projects in a variety of geographical locations Be responsible for management of projects and meeting agreed budgets Other duties as requested from time to time
