Principal Mechanisms Engineer- Aerospace / Space Technology - £38-48,000
The Principal Mechanisms Engineer will be supporting mechanisms production, with support to other mechanisms design activities, including bid work and newmechanisms design for Science programmes.New developments and evolution of existing solar array drive mechanisms (SADM) and antenna pointing products and support to Earth Observation and Science for mechanical systems development activities related to robotics. The Principal Mechanisms Engineer will be using their space experience for key risk mitigation and trouble shooting on new and established product builds.
Other responsibilities include producing documentation such as test plans / procedures / reports, torque margin analyses, life predictions, reliability analyses and various technical notes such as design descriptions.The Principal Mechanisms Engineer will be required to liaise with customers and make technical presentations to both customers and internal management.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Degree / HND level in mechanical engineering, aerospace, or similar discipline, with knowledge of dynamic principles, tribology, gear and bearing design, slip ring technology.
- Ability to trouble-shoot mechanisms and communicate through personal interaction and clear documentation.
- Thorough experience of thermal and structural analysis essential
- Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink with a proven ability to model and predict mechanism performance.
- Design, analysis, manufacturing and testing of mechanism performance against a detailed specification.
- Experience in the space and/or aerospace industry.
- Experience of working with mechanisms in extreme environment applications preferred with experience in development of new mechanism concepts and with composition of winning proposals.
- Experience with mechanical analysis packages for mechanisms analysis, such as Adams would be an asset.
