Principal Polymer Scientist/Consultant
My client based in Hertfordshire is seeking to recruit a Senior Consultant with excellent knowledge of polymers.
A major part of my client's business involves the evaluation of polymeric materials eg. elastomers, thermoplastics, composites under extreme conditions for oil and gas sector applications.
Examples include long term exposure tests at high temperatures and pressures with oil field fluids such as supercritical CO2, H2S and aggressive corrosion inhibitors. The assessment of materials performance may be via mechanical tests, or could involve the design and fabrication of custom fixtures in order to meet specific customer requirements. The client performs tests to corporate, national and international standards as well as developing test specifications. The company also initiates and runs research products which attract international support; these enable my client to remain at the forefront of applied non-metallic materials science in the energy sector.
Their client base is worldwide.
As well as having a fundamental understanding of polymers, the successful applicant should be knowledgeable about their uses in the oilfield. Performance issues such as RGD resistance, chemical ageing and fluid permeation should be familiar as well as general laboratory physical/mechanical testing procedures. The role requires a chemistry/materials scientific background or training in a relevant engineering discipline.
The role will require the ability to:
- provide technical advice about non-metallic materials to my client's oil and gas clients
- Interact with technical staff on a range of materials testing and analytical issues
- Add value through data interpretation and reviewing/reporting
- Develop business, particularly larger scale client and multi-sponsor projects
The successful applicant will have specialist knowledge of polymeric materials in the oil and gas sector as well as significant industry experience.
You will also possess excellent communication, organisational and commercial skills and be able to demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving, to interact with commercial clients and be willing to travel internationally as and when required.
