We provide value-added design and engineering services and built solutions across the entire spectrum of electricity networks from HV transmission grids to LV industrial power distribution and controls. Our clients include UK T&D companies, renewable technology providers and we are playing an increasingly key role in delivering the electrical design aspects of major infrastructure projects such as the London Olympics and truly groundbreaking international projects. We are seeking applications from Principal Electrical Engineers with drive and ambition and the proven ability to lead the delivery of electrical infrastructure projects. Previous experience of working in the electricity utilities sector is essential as is the desire to lead and develop teams within a thriving and rapidly growing environment. Atkins places a strong emphasis on its clients and a strong client focus and stakeholder awareness is required for these roles. Roles and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the electrical design aspects of substation refurbishment/re-kit projects and major infrastructure projects from system studies and investment appraisals through to detailed design
  • Act as Project Director on electrical design projects or Project Manager on multidisciplinary utilities infrastructure design projects
  • Leadership and technical development of a team of senior and junior electrical engineers
  • Contribute to the overall management and growth of the Transmission and Distribution division
  • Become actively involved in developing and managing client relationships
  • Lead on the production of major bids


Requirements
This role is suitable for an individual with a proven ability to deliver complex projects within a client or consultancy environment. We are looking for an individual with a fresh approach who is looking for the next step in their career development. The abilities to challenge the status quo and adapt pro actively in a complex and changing sector are essential. Candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer
  • A sufficient and appropriate level of Transmission or Distribution Network experience gained within a client organisation, engineering consultancy or equipment supplier

Experience in one or more of the following areas is also required:

  • Transmission (132kV+) electrical plant and configuration design
  • Distribution (up to 132kV) electrical plant and configuration design
  • Protection and control design at Transmission and Distribution voltages
  • Network planning and project development
  • Network modelling and analysis
  • Project management of EHV substation construction
  • Site management of HV substation construction
  • Overhead Line construction design
  • Overhead Line construction project management

  • Proven leadership and people management skills coupled with the desire to contribute to the growth of a dynamic team
  • The ability to adapt, thrive and lead others within a changing business environment
  • Excellent inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to supervise and mentor junior electrical design engineers including newly chartered engineers
  • A broader understanding of multidisciplinary or utilities design is desirable together with the ability to work within or lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Flexible and willing to travel to other Atkins' offices and client offices both within the UK and overseas if required
  • Capable of building and maintaining strong business relationships with clients and colleagues
  • A Good level of competency in all Microsoft Office applications and experience with or knowledge of specialist CAD and network analysis software applications
