Programme Manager - Radar Systems

Main purpose of the job
We are seeking a Programme manager with a background in sensor development in the defence and security industry. The role involves managing challenging and often complex product and system developments for clients in a range of market sectors, with a focus on the defence and security market. Specific experience in radar systems, including development, deployment and operation in the field, will be an advantage to the applicant.

Specific responsibilities
Managing projects in the field of defence and security, typically consisting of multidisciplinary teams (including hardware, software, digital signal processing, mechanics and production engineering).
The position involves the management of projects through the complete development lifecycle, from requirements definition through to final delivery. You will be involved in proposal preparation, selection of the team, negotiations with 3rd parties, managing concept generation, analysis of the system architecture, liaison across engineering disciplines and the specification, implementation and testing of the design.

You will manage projects typically in the region £100,000 to £3,000,000 that require delivery within tight timescales and budgets, managing both internal and external resources.

You will also make a significant contribution to our business development activities through supporting our campaign managers. You will develop your own relationships with clients and will be able to respond to their needs, recognise sales opportunities and use your commercial skills to negotiate contract terms and conditions with the support of our business office.

The position will require some occasional international travel.

Minimum requirements
A good degree in an engineering or science subject, plus substantial industrial experience working in radar and other sensor systems. A thorough understanding of radar sensors and their underlying principles. A proven track record in the management of large multi-disciplinary projects (mechanics, electronics, RF, analogue, software). A sound commercial understanding of the defence business, including experience in negotiating contract terms. Proven ability to lead the sales process, including technical and commercial proposal writing and converting prospects into sales.

Experience in managing both the development team and the customer
Working with customers in the UK and abroad
Experience in managing products through to manufacture
An interest in using your management skills across a range of industries
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Your project management experience should be underpinned by relevant technical expertise
