Goals/Mission: • To support the Project Manager by delivering project Primary Plant equipment and services within scope schedule and budget.
Working Partners/Contacts: • Reports to the Project Manager delivering turn key HV Substation Projects on a day to day basis with Line Manager reporting to the Operations Manager. • Works within a Project team consisting of 2 – 3 other Project Engineers, led by a Project Manager and supported by a Project Administrator (dependent on Project value and complexity). • Within T&D liaises with other departments involved in delivering the project, namely, Engineering, Procurement, Commercial and Service Operations. • Liaises with internal and external suppliers.
Tasks: • Responsible to the Project Manager for ensuring the overall delivery of the allocated work to meet project milestones and estimated budget. • Responsibility for ensuring all potential and identified opportunities, variations and risks are reported to the Project Manager as soon as identified, through the monthly report. • Responsible for the liaison with the Design Engineer – Primary on all primary plant aspects. • Responsible for the provision of technical specifications for procurement of all primary equipment. • Empowered to manage work packages from the tendering stage, through to successful management of all allocated subcontracts. • Responsible for liaison with T&D procurement & suppliers • Responsible for the ordering and liaison with MWB Factory • Responsible for the coordination technical spec, liaise and coordinate with procurement and main cable contractor. Including coordination of any environmental survey. • Act as engineers representative in relation to subcontract management • Responsible for ensuring primary equipment procurement and delivery to site in accordance with the Project procurement schedule. • Responsible for providing the Project Manager with monthly update information for internal and external Project Progress Reports, and other project documentation updates • Responsible for providing primary procurement information for QA plan and ensuring compliance, where necessary by attending equipment acceptance tests. • Responsible for completing supplier/subcontractor performance assessments, providing constructive feedback and agreeing corrective action plans where necessary • Responsible for Primary Supplier / Delivery Risk Log and mitigating measures. • Empowered to deputise for the Project Manager as directed by the Project Manager • Attendance in project review and coordination meetings as deemed necessary by the Project Manager. • Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies, for example Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information.
Education: • Formal qualifications to HND / HNC level in Electro / Mechanical Engineering a minimum requirement with degree level more desirable. • Corporate Membership of the Institute of Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or working towards is desirable. • Formal Project Management training desirable
Knowledge/Languages: • Operates within a delegate budget defined by the Project Manager in accordance with Company Signature Protocol • Act as engineers representative in relation to supplier/subcontract management • Responsible for the review, validation and negotiating supplier/subcontractor claims on behalf of the Project manager, liaising with Project Commercial Executive and Contract Manager where necessary. • Jointly with Purchasing & Quality functions select suppliers/subcontractors to tender equipment and subcontract packages
Experience: • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Project Engineering / contract management function ideally within the Electricity Transmission & Distribution Industry. • Design and or site experience background advantageous, particularly if in a supervisory capacity. • Sound experience of purchasing procedures. • Good negotiating skills essential. • Fully conversant knowledge of the current Transmission & Distribution standards & technologies. • Good knowledge of HV Switchgear both AIS & GIS. • Knowledge of civil / construction type activities would be advantageous. • Awareness of Commercial/Contractual issues • Knowledge of CDM Regulations / Current H&S legislation & Risk Management processes • IT Literacy (MS Office including MS Project etc) • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
