We have committed forward workload and a strategy to achieve growth through expanding our existing client base to provide consultancy services including GRIP 1-3 feasibilities, outline design, detailed design and consultancy advice. Working as part of the Rail Systems Consultancy within Atkins, the Project Engineering Managers provide signalling expertise and integration of options from different disciplines to produce feasible option proposals for multidisciplinary projects at pre-feasibility and option selection stages (i.e. Network Rail GRIP 1-3).

Responsibilities
Complete GRIP stage 1-3 activities in support of multidisciplinary projects including:
  • Identification and management of interfaces between disciplines and constraints applicable to a project.
  • Undertake assessments of changes required to signalling systems to support enhancement projects.
  • Identify options to deliver the required changes.
  • Assess practicality and cost of options
  • Lead Inter Disciplinary Reviews
  • Produce and review signalling scheme sketches and reports summarising findings and making recommendations.
  • Produce or support production of tenders for development projects


Requirements
Qualifications
  • A degree in a relevant subject would be an advantage
  • Chartered Engineer.
  • Membership of IRSE.
  • Relevant IRSE Licence (e.g. Engineering Manager or Signalling Schemes Designer) desirable.
Technical Knowledge We require:
  • Knowledge of a variety of UK signalling systems.
  • Experience of Scheme Development or Scheme Plan Production
  • Knowledge of signal sighting and risk assessments would be an advantage.
  • Experience of maintenance and/or condition assessments of equipment would be an advantage.
  • Experience of estimating and/or tendering for work.
  • Experience of engineering management on Multidisciplinary Projects or managing IDR/IDC processes.
  • Understanding of Railway legislative requirements.
  • Project Management, People Management and Stakeholder Management.
  • Finance and commercial awareness.
  • A good understanding of Railway Operations and a broad understanding of other engineering disciplines


The Individual
  • Good communication skills including the ability to communicate complex technical information to people without detailed knowledge of signalling systems.
  • Experienced in signalling scheme development.
  • Broad knowledge of other disciplines, ideally with detailed knowledge of at least one non signalling discipline.
  • Good knowledge of Network Rail Company Standards and Railway Group Standards.
  • Able to undertake design calculations using appropriate software packages. Including advanced features of Microsoft Excel.
  • Good optioneering and problem solving skills.
  • Able to identify and develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Able to lead a team to provide effective delivery of a project.
