Key accountabilities

• Programme responsibility for managing changes to key programmes & development of risk mitigation strategies & forecasts
• Co-ordinating less experienced planners to ensure consistency and best practice is implemented within the Directorate planning team
• Take a lead role in the production of WBS elements, milestone and activity level plans using appropriate tools and techniques, eg. Primavera
• Liaison with scientific, design engineering & manufacturing departments to develop accurate resource requirements
• Influencing senior stakeholders to ensure delivery of planning milestones to support specific programmes
• Integration of milestone and activity data into written and presentational form for performance measures and management reports
• Monitoring & resolution of deliverables/milestones, determining estimates, forecasts & problem solving scenarios
• Production and maintenance of databases, management spreadsheets and schedules to support project management and reporting
• Assisting in preparation, dispatch and progressing of appropriate tasking documentation
• Generation & maintenance of project bids & estimates
• Planning and procurement of ‘long lead’ material

Responsibilities

• Corporate responsibility for managing key aspects of strategic milestone projects
• To assist the Project Manager in the management of projects including preparation of estimates, specifications, programmes, financial cases, plans and procedures
• Influence key senior stakeholders through presentation of strategic project milestones
• Reporting to the Business Planning Manager on business aspects relating to the Directorate
• Responsible for Long Lead planning & procurement on behalf of the project
• To operate within the company standards relating to Security, Quality, Environment, Safety and Health

Qualifications

• Degree level qualification in an engineering, science or business related discipline or equivalent combination of qualifications and / or experience
• Project Management or planning qualifications are essential

Knowledge

• In-depth knowledge of implementing the principles of Project Management and Planning Methodology
• Working knowledge of company safety, quality and security procedures
• Knowledge of earned value techniques
• Working knowledge of the company financial systems & protocols
• Understanding of strategic level planning
• In depth knowledge of applying appropriate planning techniques and tools (MS Project or P3e)
• In depth knowledge of managing highly complex and diverse tasks including in a multi-disciplined environment

Experience

• Experience of the MS office packages
• In depth experience of working in project/technical environment
• In depth knowledge of managing highly complex and diverse tasks including in a multi-disciplined environment
• Significant experience of interacting and managing at a senior level
• Risk management experience
• Previous management experience desirable to train and develop new members of the team

Skills

• Computer literate
• Excellent communication skills and presentation skills
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team
• Ability to influence a range of senior stakeholders and make sound decisions in complex contexts, knowing when to act proactively or refer to others
