Producing 10 million machined components annually, VTL Automotive offers some of the best expertise in the field of machining and forging of various types of high tensile brass alloys to high levels of accuracy, capability and speed, supported by the latest technology in automotive and CNC machining.

At our large manufacturing plant in Halifax, West Yorkshire, we now seek a Quality manager to compliment the team.

Job Purpose

  • To create a team which has the ability to identify and implement the right solution to problems within the required time, using coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Represent the Customer’s interests for all Quality issues and ensure total Customer satisfaction through the building of step-by-step progress towards zero defects.
  • Define, lead and implement the Quality Policy of the Company with a view to continuously improve the Quality performance of VTL in accordance with the Customer expectations.
  • Using strong leadership skills, develop a highly motivated team, which achieve results through effective teamwork and co-operation.
  • Represent the Customer’s interests for all Quality issues and ensure total Customer satisfaction through the building of step-by-step progress towards zero defects.
  • Lead the dynamic, practical day-to day management of the quality system, ensure strict application of VTL procedures and standards, and deployment of VTL’s quality tools (SPC, PDCA,...)
  • Identify and communicate all customers’ specific requirements (quality objectives, regulatory/non regulatory requirements)

General Tasks

  • Ensure the direction and leadership of the team is in line with the company’s business plan, mission statement, company policy and departmental targets.
  • Establish a Quality team, which strives for continuous improvement, is responsive to internal and customer related issues, and sets out to maintain and further improve VTL’s quality system.
  • To provide quality support to production, technical and engineering departments on a day to day basis
  • To manage and develop the quality improvement programmes to ensure that targets are rolled out to the work force and are achieved.
  • To determine the feasibility of proposed customer driven programmes, and assess the ability of VTL to meet the quality requirements and overall project targets.
  • To advise and assist the customers in the development of their products, by participating in problem solving methodologies to overcome quality issues.
  • To be responsible for communication with the customers/suppliers on matters of a quality nature.
  • Alert the General Manager of serious quality problems, which could affect customer supply
  • Assist with the development of suppliers – help suppliers make progress, and integrating suppliers into the development process

Quality

  • To be responsible for compliance with quality systems and procedures: TS16949 2002, Customer specific quality systems and general quality assurance methods SPC, FMEA, trials, testing, audits etc.
  • To generate procedures and work instructions that meet the requirements of the quality standard, and to update these procedures in line with changes to the latest standards i.e. (TS16949 2002)

Projects

  • Will be required to be either a leader or member of a project team as required
  • Will represent the quality function on the project and represent the project in the quality function
  • Will co-ordinate the work of the team members and/or contributors in the quality function, including responsibility for the detailed project schedule, lead-time, and cost control associated with the project
  • Will be required to present monthly at the project committee the progress of the project giving a detailed report on the project status, road blocks and project cost
