Research Engineer: Flow Control
The Aeromechanics Department has a responsibility to assess the potential benefit of flow control technologies at air-vehicle level.
Drag reduction by active flow control is seen a key enabler to meet environmental targets for civil transport aircraft.
In order to fulfil this role a postion of Research Engineer for flow control has been created.
The holder of this role is required to interface with academic and research organisations in the flow physics of flow control as well as well as understanding the engineering requirements and constraints of the BUs . They must have the capability to manage and undertake demonstrations of the most promising solutions through simulation or testing on realistic industry problems.
The person in this position should be recognised as having an expertise in the area of flow control.
They must also have an ability to apply CFD to complex aerodynamic problems, interpret results and develop engineering solutions.
They shall support the deveoplment of methods to allow BUs to assess the performance impact of flow control on their products.
They may be required lead tasks in multi-partner projects, and support the development of strategic relationships with BUs Research Establishments and Academia.

BEng/BSc in Engineering, Mathematics or Physical sciences
PhD within the field of Aerodynamics or equivalent industrial experience
Engineering Physics or Mathematics University Degree
with either:
PhD in the application and/or development of numerical methods applied to complex engineering problems
or proven relevant experience in Industry or Research establishment on methods development
and/or application to support the assessment of flow control technology.
English Language Skills:
The successful candidate will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment
