STRUCTURAL ENGINEER, EDINBURGH

This company are currently embarking on an expansion programme and are offering the opportunity to join their exciting company in the rapidly growing marine renewables industry.

The Role
The Structural Engineer will oversee all structural engineering aspects of the current and future projects. Ultimately leading a team of structural engineers and sub-contractors who will take the Wave and Tidal Energy Conversion projects from proven concept to fully developed commercial products. The structural engineer will assist the Engineering Manager in the creation and consolidation of intellectual property within the company and to manage the delivery of wave and tidal energy projects for our customers from concept to completion.

Some Key result areas

* Ensuring that health, safety and the environment are paramount in all aspects of structural engineering activity;
* Working with the Engineering Manager in the planning, management and allocation of structural engineering resources
* Leading the company structural engineering capability,
* Identifying work to be contracted out, and engagement and management of sub-contractors efficiently and cost-effectively;
* Identifying and actively chasing opportunities to drive down structural engineering costs and the cost per unit of marine power;
* Ensuring an overall understanding of the commercial and economic issues relating to structural engineering technology, and identification of the optimum compromise between technical and economic drivers;
* Maintaining a development strategy for structural engineering technology;

Profile
The structural Engineer will have the following skills, knowledge and experience

* Chartered engineer in a civil/structural engineering discipline (essential)
* Degree qualified or equivalent (MSc, PhD or MBA of additional interest) (essential)
* Engineering design and installation experience for marine and subsea structures (essential)
* Management of design and construction projects, in the offshore, marine, subsea, renewable energy sector; (essential)
* Experience of manpower planning and managing manpower;
* Working knowledge of operating safely within a marine/offshore environment; (essential)
* Thorough understanding of the design principles, methodologies and standards for offshore structural engineering, including dynamic analysis; (essential)
* Understanding of the design principles, methodologies and standards for offshore foundation engineering and geotechnics; (essential)
* Thorough understanding of legislative requirements; (essential)
* Responsibility for diverse technology solutions;
* Familiar with the software used for structural and foundation engineering design;
* Good presentation skills and ability to drive meetings;

For this role our client are looking for candidates with a permanent/stable work history, they will not consider candidates with a contract background.
