Job Description :  Senior/ Principal Ecology Consultant

An excellent opportunity has arisen within this highly respected and successful multidisciplinary consultancy based in Chesterfield. Due to planned expansion of the Ecology team covering the Midlands and North West, an opportunity exists for an experienced ecologist to join the professional consultancy, to provide senior management and technical expertise across a variety of Ecology consultancy issues.

*Qualification & Experience- Candidates for this role are anticipated to hold a relevant BSc / MSc (preferably in Ecology) and Full membership of IEEM. Chartered environmentalist status is an advantage.
It is also anticipated that the successful candidate will hold one or more NE protected species licences and be familiar with submitting development licences for projects. Candidates with strong ornithology and Bat skills will be at an advantage.
Ideally candidates will hold a previous track record in staff management and mentoring, and managing various projects from initial concept through to completion.
As part of this senor role you will be involved in preparing reports for large scale EIA schemes, therefore previous experience in this area is required.

*Staff- Team of 30 experienced ecology consultants, providing a range of specialist services including ornithology, mammals, reptiles, botany and freshwater ecology.


Duties Include, but not limited to:
- Planning and undertaking ecology surveys
- Ecological report writing
- Designing and implementing mitigation schemes
- liaising with clients and other stakeholders
- Preparing development and disturbance licences
- Working on large scale EIA projects
- Public enquiry and expert witness
- Managing and mentoring a team of ecologists
- Managing projects

Typical Projects
This is fantastic opportunity to join a consultancy which will allow you to work on a wide variety of projects, across large scale infrastructure developments through to small scale bespoke projects and conservation / enhancement projects. Existing clients include those in the highways, transport, renewable energy markets and also local authority/ public sector clients.

You will be involved with projects at all stages, from initial concept and design through to field surveys, report writing and mitigation schemes.

As a senior ecologist you will provide expert ecological technical advice to clients and be able to liaise with other professionals on multidisciplinary schemes. You will also continue to develop and enhance your skill set and that of your team, continuing professional development and keeping abreast of market developments.
