The Diamond Trading Company (DTC) is the rough diamond distribution arm of the De Beers Family of Companies and is the world's largest supplier of rough diamonds, handling nearly half of the world's supply by value. With activities in sorting, valuing, selling and diamond beneficiation, the DTC has representative offices in the UK and South Africa, as well as joint venture operations in Botswana and Namibia with the governments of those countries.
The DTC Planning and Pricing Business Unit is responsible to ensure long term value creation for the De Beers Group from DTC through
·the annual business planning process
·strategic reviews
·alignment of key projects
·optimal supply chain forecasting and
·pricing strategy as implemented in the pricebooks.
This is a role of continuous improvement and providing options to the Group for step-change in the business of the DTC.
Within the Planning & Pricing Business Unit, the role of the Planning & Strategy department is to provide sound recommendations and input into the strategic and operational direction of the company, and ensure that DTC’s business planning supports both the Sales and Diamond Division Executive Directors in the delivery of the company’s targets over a 2-3 year horizon. It also requires the synthesis of DTC planned business activity into a holistic Business Plan including ‘top line’ i.e. revenue (sales/price and services) impacts. This includes ensuring that major projects undertaken by the company are geared towards meeting medium-term strategic goals, and aiding the DTC Executive Committee in prioritising resource allocation. (It does however exclude the responsibility for the annual Budgeting cycle.)
The job holder will work with the Head of Planning & Strategy to analyse strategic and operational options for the DTC, including input into distribution and pricing strategies. Rigorous focus will be placed on helping drive simplification, modernisation and efficiency through the organisation. As part of this role, the job holder will maintain an up to date understanding of significant projects being implemented at the DTC, delivery timeframes and issues/risks.In some cases, this could be a more direct project management role – ensuring milestones are met and issues identified early.
