The role will be based in Swindon and will also cover two smaller sites in South Wales. The successful candidate will provide the functional leadership and management of design management resource on a major project or a smaller cluster of projects within a region or product stream, from pre-qualification to completion. This role reports to the Project Director / Manager on project specific issues and to the Principle Design Manager on functional issues.
Key Accountabilities include:
· Providing focus for the gathering and sharing of the business unit /sector design knowledge
· Providing professional advice with regard to risk / opportunity, design and construction issues
· Assisting in setting the design strategy for projects and ensuring all aspects of the design management procedures are implemented
· Managing the production of the contractors' proposals
· Producing and negotiating the project specific designer agreements, scope of works and the design management plan
This role requires a strong knowledge of:
· Contracts and contract documentation
· Construction materials, methods and technology
· Health and safety and environmental legislation and issues
· Planning techniques, procurement and management systems
· Risk management, life cycle cost and value creation
· Knowledge of temporary works
· Code For Sustainable Homes
· Rain Water Harvesting
· Section agreements for roads and sewers
· HCA requirements
· Sap analysis
· Modern methods of construction inc timber frame and SIPS
Advanced design skills and strong negotiation skills are also required.
Candidates with MCIOB status and who are a chartered architect or chartered engineer would be preferred
